Garbage collection rates in the city to climb by almost 15%

The City of San Francisco is proposing to raise its residential garbage collection rates by 14.42 percent starting in July, it's first increase since 2013.
'The recommended residential rate increase will help pay for the programs and technologies to help us keep more of the materials out of the landfill,' San Francisco Public Works director Mohammed Nuru said in a statement.
The rate hikes do not affect commercial garbage collection fees.
