The 2022 NFL offseason is setting up to be full of league-altering moves at the quarterback position.
The one opening for a playoff team we know of is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who will be moving on from two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger. The next man up on the current roster is Mason Rudolph and he's the 275 favorite at SportsBetting.ag to be the Steelers' next quarterback.
But that's largely because several dominoes have yet to fall -- or their statuses are yet to be determined.
Rumors of the Las Vegas Raiders potentially "trading" for a new head coach have been gaining steam. Topping that list? The Steelers' Mike Tomlin.
How viable a scenario is of Tomlin ending up on the Raiders' sideline next season is up for debate, but Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr has the second-shortest odds at 700 to wind up in Pittsburgh.
Next is San Francisco's Jimmy Garoppolo (750), who has guided the 49ers to the divisional round of the playoffs. He is still widely expected to be moved this offseason with 2021 first-round pick Trey Lance waiting in the wings.
Pending free agent Jameis Winston is being offered at 900, with current University of Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett lining up at 1000. The Steelers own the 20th pick in the NFL draft, but do they want to entrust the offense of a playoff-caliber team to a rookie?
That's where the unknown status of several marquee veteran quarterbacks comes into play.
Will the Minnesota Vikings move on from Kirk Cousins (1100) under new leadership? Will Russell Wilson (1200) add the Steelers as a potential destination if he tries to work his way out of Seattle?
Then there's the case of Aaron Rodgers. Likely headed for his second consecutive league MVP and fourth overall, Rodgers led the Packers to the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC after an offseason of immense turmoil in Green Bay.
Would a Super Bowl title soothe relationships throughout the franchise, or will Rodgers look for a way out of town regardless? The Packers reportedly voided 2023 as part of a reworked contract last summer and reportedly agreed to review his situation at the end of this season.
Pittsburgh is in the AFC, potentially making the Steelers a more palatable destination for the Packers should they agree to move Rodgers. He is currently being offered at 1600 to be the Steelers' next quarterback.
