Bianca Andreescu provided an update Tuesday after being forced to retire from her fourth-round match at the Miami Open due to a left ankle injury.
"Woke up with a brace on my foot... anyone know what happened?" the 22-year-old Canadian wrote on Twitter. "On a serious note tho... that was the worst pain I've ever felt... praying for nothing serious. Still waiting on official results. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and kind words, doesn't go unnoticed."
Andreescu answered dropping the first set in a tiebreak by taking a 2-0 lead against 18th-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia on Monday night.
Andreescu made a move for a ball in the third game of the set and collapsed to the court in pain. She was unable to put weight on her leg and was taken off the court in a wheelchair.
A 2019 U.S. Open champion and former World No. 4, Andreescu was 31st in the WTA rankings entering play in Miami.
