Logan Webb took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and Victor Bericoto hit his first career home run as the San Francisco Giants held on for a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
Brice Turang recorded Milwaukee's first hit with one out in the seventh, an opposite-field single to left.
The Brewers stranded the tying run at third in the ninth following a leadoff double by Christian Yelich. Keaton Winn retired the next three for his first save of the season.
Webb (3-4), making his second start since coming off the injured list after missing 20 games with right knee bursitis, gave up just the one hit in seven innings. He struck out four and walked one while throwing 95 pitches.
The 29-year-old right-hander continued his dominance of the Brewers, improving to 5-0 with a 1.79 ERA in eight career starts against them.
Webb retired the first 15 batters he faced before Sal Frelick walked on a 3-2 pitch to open the sixth. Frelick advanced to third on a pair of groundouts, but Webb got Christian Yelich on an inning-ending bouncer to first.
The Brewers also threatened in the eighth. Pinch hitter Jackson Chourio greeted reliever Erik Miller with a leadoff single, and Luis Rengifo drew a one-out walk. Winn entered and got pinch hitter Gary Sanchez on a double-play bouncer to third.
Bericoto opened the fifth inning by sending a 2-0 pitch from Robert Gasser 385 feet to right-center. The 24-year-old right fielder was appearing in his eighth big-league game.
Gasser (0-2) entered with a 6.48 ERA, but he allowed only one run on five hits in five innings, striking out five and walking one.
The Giants loaded the bases with one out in the third on two infield singles and another off the glove of shortstop David Hamilton, but Gasser escaped with a flyout and a grounder to first.
Milwaukee, which managed just three hits total, had won seven of its previous eight games. San Francisco had lost seven of its past eight, including the first two games of the four-game series by a combined score of 24-5.
The Giants will look to split the series in the finale Thursday afternoon.
